"Owl and Girl" by Iwao Akiyama

The owl cannot fly with a broken wing.

My teacup face angles toward the sky, searching in vain. There is a hole in my heart, my fingers interlaced with shadows. A face peers out from the void, asking all the hard questions, like how long ago did the sun set? Why didn't I notice it happen? And what color is the moon, anyway?
